October 20th was World Osteoporosis Day and I had the pleasure of spending the day in Washington, DC visiting the offices of Senator's Gillibrand and Schumer, and Representatives Lowey and Tonko. I was there as a lobbyist for the National Osteoporosis Foundation to let our NYS legislators know about the need for their votes on the "Medicare Fracture Prevention and Osteoporosis Testing Act of 2009" and the "Bone Health Promotion and Research Act of 2009". It was one of the most important days of my life. The experience of being able to speak not only for myself but for everyone made me understand how privileged I am as an American to have a government that listens to all the people! The highlight of my day came at the end when I got to discuss these important issues with our own hometown Congressman Paul Tonko. I am looking forward to having any or all of the legislators stop by the studio and learn how to exercise their bones safely! Stay tuned for more information, photographs and press releases to follow.
